Mobility Scooter Insurance Comparison

Finding the best insurance deal for your mobility scooter can be hard work, which is why here at Help My Mobility we have drawn up a mobility scooter insurance comparison chart, to eliminate the hassle. We have done all the research for you.

Our in-depth table allows for quick comparison between the five leading mobility scooter insurance companies, and shows you how much each policy costs, alongside what you are getting for your money.

All information is relevant as of November 2013, but be aware insurance companies reserve right to change or alter policies at their own discretion. Prices are based on set terms and conditions, dependent upon the scooter make and model. Those shown are for standard 4-8mph scooters. Please note that policies shown in the table will cost more if you opt for additional clauses such as coverage for any driver or carer contingent liability.

Insurance has long been a topic of debate for us, and we fully believe that everyone who owns a mobility scooter should be insured. Every day we hear of accidents and thefts involving mobility scooters, and in some cases it can be extremely costly to replace. We refer to the case of one woman who had to sell her home to pay legal fees after an accident, back in 2010.

To prevent incidents like this, we have an ongoing petition to make mobility scooter insurance a legal requirement. To sign up and help us bring this to the attention of the government, click here.

We understand it can be a costly outlay, which is why we have produced this comparison, in order to show you the cheapest and best options available.

The best price for comprehensive coverage is £59, offered by both Lockton Mobility and Fish Insurance, with the latter only available as an online deal. In terms of what you get for your money, Fish’s policy offers better cover, with an additional year on its new for old replacement, guaranteed flood or storm cover, and coverage for any driver using the mobility scooter.

As far as overall value for money, First Senior insurance offer the best long term policy, with yearly reductions equating to paying only £56 in the second and third years, and £52 in the fourth. Their policy matches those which are cheaper, and includes carer contingent liability and loss of key cover, not included in other policies.

If money is no object and you are also looking for breakdown cover, then Premier Care’s policies include 24/7 breakdown recovery, with a standard policy available from £75, and plus policy from £99. Bear in mind that breakdown recovery can cost anything up to £100, so this price is actually very reasonable.

For basic third party coverage, to protect against legal action in the case of an accident, then Lockton offer a third party package for only £49, but this does not cover theft or personal injury. We only recommend third party insurance if you are on a very tight budget.

Chartwell Insurance offer a flexible package starting at £62, with the option to add extra cover at a small increased price. To get their best deals, contact them direct.
