\r\nAs part of Help My Mobilitys campaign to make the roads a safer place for users of mobility scooters, the team rolled into Southampton, Hampshire on Thursday to deliver their free hi vis vests to the citys Shopmobility outlet.The donated vests are to be given out to mobility equipment users who borrow scooters from the shop on Castle Way in the city. It is hoped that by providing fluorescent vests to Shopmobility customers, Help My Mobilitys campaign will help scooter users to enjoy Southampton safely and securely.“These vests are life savers,” said Neil, a long distance haulier and Shopmobility associate.Often it is very difficult to see mobility scooter users, so any form of hi visibility is a great idea.”Shopmobility Southamptons team leader, Wendy, agreed;Crossing the road in the dark is particularly dangerous,” she said.These vests are a great idea to help to be seen”The recent spate of mobility scooter accidents and close calls caused by poor weather conditions and low visibility has made road safety a more pressing concern than ever. While being visible on the road is vital, Help My Mobility director, Jason Tate, stresses that the vests are no substitute for careful scooter operation;“Staying visible on the road is only part of the battle,” Jason said.All road users should ensure that they remain careful and aware of other users while they are out and about.”In addition to the vests donated to Southampton Shopmobility, Help My Mobility have so far sent out over 50 vests to individual users.
